How not to visit beautiful Paternò? Enclosed in a basin bordered by the ancient prehistoric volcano, the historical centre of the city is called the 'historical hill' by the inhabitants. Here are the most important monuments of the city, including numerous historical palaces, among them the Palazzo di Città and the Palazzo Moncada. Paternò's most symbolic monument, however, is the Norman Castle, built in 1072, from where one can admire a breathtaking panorama that reaches as far as the Simeto valley. Among the religious buildings, the 16th-century Sanctuary dedicated to the Madonna della Consolazione, the Church of the SS. Annunziata and the Church of Santa Barbara are worth a visit.
