This place is for those who love to live in close contact with nature. For those who, more than a stay, want to live an extraordinary experience, completely into the wild. Immersed in the greenery of Calabria, with a view of the Gulf of Sant'Eufemia, this location is ideal for a relaxing holiday, an adventure with friends or a romantic stay in the most classic sense: 2 hearts and a hut! The low light pollution allows you to observe a marvellous starry sky, you will rediscover the essentiality of simple things, like warming yourself by the fireplace and sipping a cup of herbal tea flavoured with Calabrian liquorice. Explore the 8 hectares of land and let yourself be carried away by the sounds and scents of the countryside, among ancient oak trees, cork trees, olive trees, liquorice, broom and expanses of wild flowers. The Mediterranean maquis will fascinate you. On the property, once the site of "Nonno Giovanni's" farming activities, there is a spartan farmhouse, the former solar-powered stable with a kitchenette and washbasin and a toilet with washbasin fed by a cistern for recovering rainwater; Nonno's small house; traces of an ancient limekiln used to produce quicklime mortar for the construction of stone dwellings; a spring of ferrous water. You can also admire the bees at work: between the 1950s and 1960s Nonno Giovanni bred bees in the bugni and collected sweet honey with his bare hands. His descendants wanted to continue the family tradition by installing some beehives on the site. The place is now being restored thanks to the work of a Social Farm, run by the Apicoltura Miceli farm in Lamezia Terme. The aim of the project is to restart agricultural production and rediscover the history and traditions of the place from an ecological and eco-sustainable perspective. On days when the sky is clear, the breathtaking panorama, which opens up from Pizzo Calabro to Capo Suvero, shows the beautiful Aeolian islands, among which Vulcano in eruption is a breathtaking sight: it is the Coast of the Phaeacians sung by Homer in the Odyssey. The site is located in Serra di Piro, about 16 minutes by car from the delightful town of Arbëreshë origin, Gizzeria, a municipality in the province of Catanzaro that contains evidence of ancient Italic and Greek settlements supported by the discovery of various archaeological finds. Strolling through the centre, you can admire the beautiful churches, such as the Chiesa dell'Annunziata and the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, and the imposing historical buildings, such as Palazzo Ianazzo and Palazzo Miceli. Architectural heritage also includes the Casino Maiolino Stocco, an old mill and the famous watchtowers, known as the Saracen towers of Ogliastro (Capo Suvero) and Santa Caterina. In the village you can also visit the Parish Museum of Sacred and Peasant Art. In the neighbouring town of Falerna, a 15-minute drive from the residence, is the Roman Villa of Pian delle Vigne, probably built in the 1st century AD and in use until the 4th century AD. In the hamlet of Castiglione Marittimo you can also admire the ancient village and one of the most powerful Norman castles in the area, which was once used to guard the via Popilia. The sea is only a 10-minute drive from the residence: in summer, the world kite-surfing championships are held in Gizzeria Lido and there are several facilities, including a school, where you can learn the discipline. A half-hour drive will take you to Lamezia Terme, a city with a central railway station and an international airport, which is also home to historical, archaeological and naturalistic treasures such as the Terme di Caronte, where you can find both the free popular 'gurna' and a spa with a museum; the Norman castle, the Bastion of Malta the Benedictine Abbey of Sant'Eufemia and the archaeological excavations of the ancient Magna Graecia city of Terina; the historic centres of the Nicastro and Sambiase districts; the Lametino Archaeological Museum and the Luogo della Memoria Ecomuseum, a conspicuous collection housed in two old houses that preserves household items and work tools belonging to local artisans and farmers who worked there until 1940. The mountains are also not far away: in about half an hour's drive from the residence, it is possible to visit the wonders of Mount Mancuso, belonging to the Reventino mountain range, the western extension of Sila Piccola, where there is still a NATO military base used during the Cold War.
